Our Activities and achievements
Facilitating government welfare schemes for members & their families:
BMS is very active in facilitating access to government welfare schemes for its members and their families. BMS facilitates its members to avail Voter ID, ration card, old age pension, widow pension, and Aadhar card, etc. More than 2378 members and their families have been benefitted so far from this service of BMS.
Microfinance through SHG promotion:
BMS promotes microfinance Self Help Groups among its women members at village level to facilitate access to savings, credit and insurance for economic empowerment of deprived women members. So far 78 SHGs have been formed covering 3300 women members in its working areas. DPMS supports these SHGs to avail bank loans for livelihood needs of its members.
Livelihood promotion through skill training:
Skill training, credit access and marketing support are rendered by the DPMS for livelihood promotion. Skill trainings on different trades like tailoring, beautician, catering, etc that leads to employment are regularly organised for women members with support for various likeminded institutions by the society for its members. More than 500 members received trainings from BMS on different trades.
Legal aid & counselling:
BMS provides legal aid and counselling services for women, adolescent girls and boys in distress. BMS with support from lawyers and other like-minded well-wishers help its members and their families who are in need of legal aid and counselling services. BMS also conducts legal aid training to its members at village and block level regularly.
HIV/AIDS prevention and care:
BMS is actively engaged in HIV/AIDS prevention activities in the district. BMS works closely with the District Government Hospital to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS in the district. People living with HIV/AIDS in the district are supported with monthly groceries from BMS.
Details of Beneficiaries & Operational Areas
Belaku Mahila Sangha (BMS) is a collective of women members and presently has a membership of 2543 women members from economically backward families in 14 block covering 42 villages of Dharwad district in Karnataka. Women members from low income families in Dharwad district can become a member of BMS by paying a membership fee.
BMS works for the empowerment of deprived women- poor, destitute, widow, HIV/AIDS affected, etc and their family members mainly the children through various development intervention programs.

Plans for the future
- Introduce educational assistance for children from low income families to continue education
- Setting up a vocational skill training center for adolescent girls and boys to get into employment
- Introduce life and health insurance schemes for all the members and their spouses through the SHGs
- Conduct medical camps in all the working villages to provide medical assistance to people in need
- Facilitate loans from banks for more SHGs for livelihood activities
- Promote group income generation activities for economic independence of members
- Raise resources locally to run and sustain the society for longer years for the benefit of the members and society at a large.
